We’ve Got Great News

Jesus Christ, God’s son, died on a cross almost 2,000 years ago and He did it for you and me (John 3:16)

Why do I need God?

We all know that at some point in time this life will be over. Daniel 12:2 points out that at the end of this world “many of those who sleep in the ground will awake, these [the ones who’s name is in God’s book.. see v.1] to everlasting life, but the others to disgrace and everlasting contempt. God made you (Psalm 139:13-14) and He made you to exist forevermore.

This means that there is something after this life is over on Earth.

What can I do about it?

God makes it very clear that that He is absolutely sinless and holy. (Deuteronomy 32:4) God also has made it very clear that we are sinful (Romans 3:23) and in need of being rescued from the coming punishment of our sins (Romans 6:23). Mankind for generations has been trying to make themselves good enough for God, but God has said we cannot do enough good things to wash out the stain that sin has left in our life. God has said though that through His offer of salvation we can be made clean. (Isaiah 1:18)

In order to be forgiven of your sins and be made pure in God’s eyes, you must confess that you are a sinner. In other words, you’ve got to tell God what He already knows, but we all have to come to the realization ourselves, that we are disobedient. Then you must also believe that God raised Jesus from the dead. (Romans 10:9) You see almost 2000 years ago God sent His Son, Jesus, to this Earth to live like one of us in every way, except to do it without sinning. (Hebrews 4:14-16) Jesus came not just to live like us, but also to die for us. He was executed on a cross outside Jerusalem. An innocent man in every sense of the term, but He took my place, because in that crucifixion God poured all His wrath for my sin onto Jesus. So now because of the free gift of God through the cross my sins, yes all my sins have been paid for. (1 Timothy 2:6)

How do I know that God will forgive me?

Because God is sinless we know that when He says something then He will stick to His word. God said most pointedly in John 3:16 that those who believe in Him will not perish, but have everlasting life. There is no condemnation in you now if you trust Christ as Savior and as Lord. (Romans 8:1) The great thing about God is that He continues to work in us. As we grow in our knowledge and love for God He continues to lead and guide us. He shows us ways in which we can improve. Ways in which we can live more in line with what He has called us to do. (2 Corinthians 7:10) God loves us just as we are, but He refuses us to leave us where we are. He wants us to walk in the way He knows He has designed us to walk; to fulfill our purpose in this world and to give Him glory in everything we do.

If you have trusted Christ as Savior and as Lord then you can know with absolute certainty that God will continue to forgive you. (John 10:28)
